** Pirate Talk – A Few Quick Tips
With International Talk Like a Pirate day now only a week away and the
first parties coming this weekend (check the Calendaarrr! at
http://talklikeapirate.com/tlapd07.html, where we already list scores
of events taking place in 20 states and six other countries! Don't
forget to send in YOUR plans!) we thought this would be a good time to
give you a few quick tips on how to banter like a buccaneer.
First, the easiest thing to do is add the phrase "me hearty" to
everything you say. "Fill it with regular, me hearty!" "I'll have a
double mocha latte with skim milk, whipped cream and a scone, me
hearty!" "I now pronounce you husband and wife, me hearties!" or even,
"Turn yer head and cough, me hearty!"
Once you've got that mastered, it's time to move on to the Five As.
These are the glue that bind pirate palaver into a language all its
own. They are:
Ahoy! – Use this instead of "Hello!"
Avast! – "Stand and give attention," or more colloquially, "Dude! Take
a look at that!"
Aye – "I heartily agree with everything you just said or did."
Aye aye! – Slightly different than the last one, "Aye" is general
agreement. "aye aye" is a positive to an order or request from the
cap'n, as in, "Yes boss, I'll get right on that just as soon as I
finish my coffee."
And the most important single word in yer pirate lexicon –
Aarrr! – This is a universal affirmative, it means whatever you want it
to mean. Basically, "Aaarrr!" means "I'm here and alive!" Please note
it's not "Aarrgh." That's the sound of pain or dismay, the sound you
make when you sit on a belaying pin. Thanks to Robert Newton of
Disney's "Treasure Island," "Aarrr!" (or sometimes "Yarr!") is a
freebooter's growl that announces "The pirates are here!"
Finally, let us remind you that "me" substitutes for the possessive
"my," as in "Taste me cutlass" or "Leave yer hands off me wench." It
NEVER substitutes for "I" as a first person pronoun. Never say "Me want
me rum!' It's "I want me rum." Misusing "me" this way is NOT pirate
talk. Save it for "Talk Like a Caveman Day."
Now give me me rum! And get out there and spread the word – and the
word is "Aaarrrr!"

**Media Availability
As I mentioned in the last issue, Cap'n Slappy and I will be in Los
Angeles for the holiday this year, taking part in the festivities at
Studio City's Ye Olde Tattoo Shop.
That means we aren't going to be able to do the 80 or so radio and
television interviews we usually do on the holiday. We might be able to
handle some on the cell phone, and Mad sally will be manning the lines
here at the international headquarters of The Pirate Guys. Mad Sally is
a good interview and no mistake, so stations can talk to her on the
day, get Cap'n Slappy and meself early and record an interview to play
on the 19th.
Drop us a line at wench at talklikeapirate.com and Mad Sally will set you
up!

** More on Our Trip to L.A.
We're more and more excited about our trip to L.A. to celebrate the
holiday with our friends at Ye Olde Tattoo Shoppe in Studio City.
There will be bands, sword fights, Slappy and I will be there
autographing our book, "Pirattitude!" and there'll be lots more
excitement. Just about every pirate purveyor in the
We're also taking part in the Los Angeles screening of "Pirates of the
Great Salt Lake" (more about that below.) You can find more
information by going to our links page:
To learn more about either event, go to:

Then scroll ALL the way to the bottom for the link to Studio City
Tattoos. The shop's address is 11032 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, CA
91604. You can call them at 818-769-4049.

** Screenings Added for "Pirates of the Great Salt Lake!"
Two more cities _ Los Angeles and Indianapolis – will be screening the
terrific new pirate movie, "Pirates of the Great Salt Lake" in honor of
International Talk Like a Pirate Day.
If you're anywhere near these theaters you owe yourself the chance to
get down and see it. The lads who made this film are still working to
get a distribution deal, and the L.A. screening is an important part of
that. So rally the crew! If you're in Los Angeles, get down to the
Fairfax Cinemas, 7907 Beverly Blvd., for the 7:30 p.m. showing. Tickets
are $6. Take it from the Pirate Guys – who'll be there too! – it's well
worth it!
Here's the whole slate of screenings, with times, locations and prices.
Egyptian Theatre, 700 W. Main St., Boise, ID 7:30 p.m., $6.00
Key Cinemas, 4044 S. Keystone Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. 8 p.m., $6.00
Fairfax Cinemas, 7907 Beverly Blvd., Los Angeles, CA. 7:30 p.m. $6.00

So there ye have it. Screenings in six cities to see the best movie you
haven't heard of (YET.) If they add any more screenings we'll be sure
to let ye know.

** "Pirates vs. Ninjas" video online
Monday Mad Sally added another new Pirate Guys video to her youtube
account, a video that scientifically answers the question, once and for
all, "Who's cooler? Nnjas or Pirates?"
Well, considering who posted the video, you already know the answer.
But if you want to watch it (and you know you do) go to our main page:
http://talklikeapirate.com/piratehome.html
and scroll down to the YouTube link:
More silly videos for YouTube are coming as the day draws nearer!
---------------------------------------------------------
No "Ol' Chumbucket's Book Club" this week, there's way too much goin'
on and too much to do before we embark for Los Angeles. But that
feature will be back soon. In the meantime, I can heartily recommend
our books, "Pirattitude!," "A Li'l Pirate's ABSeas," and the "Diego
Garcia Caper" and "The Sao Paolo Caper," all available through our Web
site and they make great gifts!
Until next time, keep spreading the word, and the word is "Aarrr!"
