Thanks to sophisticated new computer modeling techniques, a series of dam
removal projects planned throughout the United States can be attempted with
a realistic look at the results.

Left: After the Matilija Dam is removed from the Ventura River, this model
shows the depths predicted during a flood. The simulations were made using
the modeling program developed by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation that
incorporates ArcGIS maps.
