Colleagues:

A reminder that the Board Meeting starts at 10am on Saturday, May 4 at my
house: 1035 SE Cesar E Chavez Blvd in Portland. Here is the Google Map for
your convenience: http://goo.gl/maps/tv33n. Call my cell phone,
503-734-7491, if you need help locating the house.

I have invited a couple of guests who are interested in getting involved
with our organization. I look forward to introducing them to you...if not
at this meeting, then the next one.

I would also appreciate you registering for the meeting so I know how many
of you will be here. I will be providing lunch, so I want to make sure I
have enough without a lot of left overs. I'm creating a salad bar with
some animal and non-animal protein sources. Please RSVP at
http://www.oregonscience.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1485259

The house will be open at 9am for coffee, tea, pastries, and visiting with
one another. The agenda is attached. There is a lot to discuss, so please
come prepared to work, so we can get you out of here by 3pm.

Teresa sent you a link to the board report form. I hope you found the
report template easy to use and read. Please be ready to give feedback.
My hope is to make the reporting process easy to both submit and review,
leaving the meeting for business. If you have ideas that will aid in this
goal, please present them.

Some of you have yet to fill in your part of the report. Please do that as
soon as possible so that people have time to read and prepare questions if
needed. Here's the link that will get you to the document for you to type
in your report items:

Please note that there are four ad hoc committees that are
needed: Advocacy, Budgeting, Fundraising, and By-Laws. Please consider
helping the organization out with one of these important tasks. These small
ad-hoc committees can meet when it is convenient for the members via video
chat or in person. A Communications committee has already been working and
consists of Sue, Martha, Lela, Lynda, and myself. If you would like to be
on this committee, please let us know.

Here are a couple of items that need your attention, soon:

*Awards*: http://www.oregonscience.org/Default.aspx?pageId=1485607.
Please nominate deserving individuals for the many awards we have
available to recognize outstanding teachers. We are working on an event to
celebrate excellence in science teaching. Let's make it a big celebration
by nominating people. Pass along this link to your colleagues so they may
nominate someone.

*Elections*:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dFNhSmluckV3cjZFNlRJb2xrbmp4VUE6MQ#gid=0.
Please nominate yourself or a colleague who is passionate about advocating
for science education. We need people to help support the implementation
of the NGSS and advocate for science educators in this state. Again, pass
this link along to your colleagues who may know of an individual who could
focus their energy in this area.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Respectfully,

Lori
