[Osta-board] ESSA letter

Dear OSTA Board Members,


I have written a letter on behalf of OSTA to Dr. Salam Noor and others who are establishing the ESSA accountability system for Oregon.  I feel strongly that we have to take a stand on promoting support for STEM education in the new accountability system so that science is not a subject that is taken for granted or underfunded due to student progress not being measured when evaluating schools in this area.


As board members you will vote on whether you approve of this letter coming from OSTA during our January meeting. If approved you will have the opportunity to add your name and school affiliation to the letter if you wish.


Prior to our meeting, I ask that you read the letter and I welcome any comments or feedback on it.
